A non profit organization dedicated to helping our areas homless keep covered with warm blankets in winter and covered with love the whole year through.
I met William McCulley as a trainer at a community nonprofit … he founded the Good Neighbors Picnic www.goodneighborspicnic.org. I volunteered in various ways over the years but this last October 2009 I was the Volunteer Chair. As part of that responsibility I had to arrive before the volunteers and help get things going. As the sun rose and we were beginning to assemble things I noticed right away that a line was forming – this was before 7:00 a.m. – only the setup crews had arrived. The line was for blankets…where the volunteer check-in was faced that line and for several hours I watched the homeless community line up with determination. No one got out of line … not when the food stations opened, not when activities started…. They started before 7:00 a.m. and didn't move out of that line until the Picnic began at noon. After the Picnic I could not forget them.Blankets… we can do this … let’s collect them and distribute them.At this time my distribution method is and will always be through the Good Neighbors Picnic. My vision, my hope is that someday every metropolitan city will have a good neighbors picnic to distribute blankets.
